What does Scopolamine do?

Scopolamine, also known as hyoscine, or Devil’s Breath, is a natural or synthetically produced tropane alkaloid and anticholinergic medication that is used as a medication to treat motion sickness and postoperative nausea and vomiting. It is also sometimes used before surgery to decrease saliva. When used by injection, the effects begin after about 20 minutes and last up to 8 hours. It can also be used orally.

Scopolamine is part of the antimuscarinic family of medications and works by blocking some of the effects of acetylcholine on the nervous system. Scopolamine was first written about in 1881 and began to be used for anesthesia around 1900. Scopolamine is also the main active component produced by certain plants in the nightshade family, which have historically been used as psychoactive drugs (known as delirious ) due to its hallucinogenic effects induced by antimuscarinics at higher doses. In these contexts, its mind-altering effects have been used for recreational and occult purposes.

Scopolamine poisoning from homemade ‘moon flower’ wine

LH, a 76-year-old Caucasian man, drank 3 teaspoons (15 mL) of homemade wine over a 1-hour period and became ill. Approximately 1.5 hours later, he was taken to the emergency room of a local hospital with symptoms of respiratory distress and weakness. The plant used in making the wine was Angel’s trumpet (Datura suaveolens), which reportedly contains varying amounts of scopolamine and atropine. A sample of the wine was collected and analyzed for these two compounds by reversed-phase HPLC chromatography using 97% methanol-3% deionized water. The filtered wine contained approximately 29 mg of scopolamine/mL, which produced a total ingested dose of 435 mg. No atropine was detected. Scopolamine was confirmed by TLC. An oral dose of 50 mg atropine sulfate in humans has been reported to be fatal. The alcohol content and pH 3.8 of the homemade wine may have increased the extraction of this compound from the plant material, and the wine fermentation process may have concentrated the original extract.

Dosage for Death

Scopolamine in small doses causes unconsciousness for up to 24 hours or more, being widely used in robberies where the victim is unconscious. But in the amount of 10mg it is enough to kill, and can be used together with food or drinks, where in alcoholic drinks its effect is faster, around 30 minutes, painless death as it causes drowsiness. It is only detected in more precise autopsies.

scopolamine, in films it’s called true serum, apply very carefully and at your discretion!
